This session features a keynote presentation from the founder of 12 Neighbours Tiny Home Community, followed by City Planners who will discuss Fredericton’s affordable housing strategy.
Marcel LeBrun, Founder, President and Chair, 12 Neighbours. Marcel is graduate of UNB Fredericton and former software entrepreneur who applied his wealth and skills to develop a tiny home community and social enterprise.

Panel Discussion profiling the work of Fredericton’s Community Safety Task Force to strategically address community safety.
Mayor Kate Rogers - Co-Chair Fredericton Community Safety Task Force. Rogers was elected to Fredericton City Council in 2012, this is Rogers’ 3rd term. In May 2021, Kate Rogers was elected as Mayor of Fredericton, she is the first woman to serve in that role.
She has dedicated her career to building community through leadership roles in the non-profit and charitable sector, in arts and cultural development, and in policy research and creation. She was the executive director of the Fredericton Community Foundation, the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, the New Brunswick Crafts Council, and managing director of the NB Social Policy Research Network. She has a master’s degree in political science.
Gary Forward, Chief, City of Fredericton Police Department. Co-Chair Fredericton Community Safety Task Force. Forward is a dedicated public safety professional with 35 years of experience. He started his career with the Fredericton Police Force as a Constable in 1989, rising to the rank of Inspector for the Force in 2007. He has worked in the RCMP’s J-Division and the Department of Justice and Public Safety for the Province of New Brunswick and took on the role as Chief for the Woodstock Police Force in 2019. He was appointed Chief to the Fredericton Police Force in 2024 and co-chairs the Community Safety Task Force Committee with Mayor Rogers.

This session features a presentation by Erin McDonald who shares case studies from her recently published paper ‘Future-Proofing your Past’. This will be followed by a panel discussion on local examples of heritage buildings saved from deterioration and now living their next best life, including a 100-year old school and a railway roundhouse.
Erin McDonald MCH, MBA – Principal, ECM3. Erin specializes in arts, heritage, and cultural asset management. She has led projects for municipalities to develop operating strategies, community-oriented programming, and enhancing cultural initiatives.

John Leroux - architect, historian, published author, and curator at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. John has advocated for the preservation of built heritage throughout New Brunswick and has advised on numerous projects to adapt heritage buildings for new uses.

National Historic Site covering two blocks in downtown Fredericton. A centre of military activity when garrisoned by the British Army from 1785 – 1869 and the birthplace of the Canadian Army from 1883 – 1914. Now a cherished community event space following a multi-year revitalization project which was reopened in 2024.
